Fader
Version 1.3
System Requirements:
8088 or higher.
256k of video ram.
If you run Fader from within any version of Windows, run it full-screen, and
in the foreground only.
Do not compress this screen saver with -any- "on the fly" file compressors like
Stacker, especially not with PkLite, etc....
Fader is a screen saver for DOS (mainly) which fills the screen with one of
262,144 colors for a tiny fraction of a second, then fades or "melts" into
another hue. The effect is of the screen smoothly fading from one color to the
next. There are 10 speeds, with 0 being the fastest and 9 being the slowest.
To start, you hit one of the speed keys or the R key. While it's running, you
can press 0 thru 9 to speed it up or slow it down, respectively. To randomize
the colors and timing, press the R key (for Random). This randomizes both the
color and the timing. If you want to press a timing number key afterwards it's
okay, but you don't have to. Sometimes I hit R a few times to get to a color I
like. Remember, these keys produce change once the colors start: 0 thru 9, and
R. 0=fastest, 9=slowest. To exit, press any other key. If you press 0, the
color changing is responsive to the speed of your computer. A Pentium 150mhz
computer will cycle color settings about 15 times faster than a 386 DX 40mhz
computer. This is on setting 0 only (not any other speed number, nor on R).
I included the programming graphics file Bgi256.obj and its documentation for
other Turbo Pascal programmers to use. This file accepts 6 bits each for Red,
Green, and Blue, for a total of 262,144 colors possible (up to 256 at a time).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Revision History:
1.0 First release
1.1 Added ability to re-randomize the colors (the R key). Also it starts in
a random color now, instead of off-white.
1.2 Added random timing to the R key. Now 10 variable speeds and a random
smooth speed based on the average. Also deleted a function (Brighten).
The reason is because R is good enough to change a boring color.
1.3 Changed the exit key to any key other than 0 thru 9 or R, instead of
escape only. This is to fix an imperfection in the way the program
cycles through the colors if certain wrong keys are pressed. The fix
works, making it now impossible for this to happen.

P.S. A mirror or two can brighten the display into a dark room.
